World Gambling Totaled $419 billion in 2011

A few days ago Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (GBGC) released a detailed study of global gambling industry. The research showed a rise in gambling revenue across the world by 5.6% to $419 billion, compared to the previous year. Lotteries were out in front accounting for 28.4% of gambling revenues, casinos were close behind on 27.7% and are expected to claim the top spot this year.

It may seem strange, but online gambling has also increased its share of the gaming market during the last year. Despite the withdrawal of American players, the share of online games amounted to 8.4%, improving by 0.4% compared to 2010. However, online poker is still a "persona non grata" on the huge U.S. market, legalization of which would have substantially affected the entire industry.

As for predictions, experts promise that global gambling revenue will exceed $500 billion by 2014. This figure is not so unattainable, given tearing growth rates at the Asian market with its enclaves in Macau and Singapore.
