Photo Post from Rio

26/06/2012

Since the previous night did not bring us any new WSOP champions, we have decided to make a photo-mosaic, which quite accurately conveys the mood prevailing in Las Vegas these days. Enjoy!

1. Not a gentleman’s behavior?

Jackie Glaser
Last night Australia’s Jackie Glazier was very close to become the first woman to win an open World Series of Poker Event since Vanessa Selbst, who took down a $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event back in 2008. However, despite the impressive support in the face of Joe Hachem and 3-to-1 chip lead over her last competitor - Greg Ostrander, the bracelet remained in the United States. Ostrander managed to double up, moved into the chip lead and never looked back on his way to his first WSOP win and the $ 742,072 grand prize.

2. Soccer vs. Poker

Football in Vegas
Despite the fact that geographically Las Vegas is located far from the battlefields of Euro 2012, it also could not escape from some football fans. For instance, at this photo you may find a Spanish club team and Portuguese jersey. Giving the fact that both nations face off in Euro semi-finals, we have a question – which team will you support?

3. Three November Niners Together

Soi Nguyen
An interesting trio was captured at the table of Event #44: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em: WSOP 2009 Main Event winner Joe Cada seated right next to 2008 Main Event runner-Up Ivan Demidov and 2010 Main Event 9th place finisher Soi Nguyen. It is noteworthy that these three players have amassed more than $18,000,000 in total tournament cashes, and we feel sorry for their neighbors.

4. Jubilee Bracelet

World Series of Poker Media Director Nolan Dalla gave an interesting statistics about this years series. According to him, Greg Ostrander, who won Event #41: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em is the World Series of Poker's 1000th bracelet winner.

Jubilee WSOP bracelet
Given that some genius players possess more than one trophy, there are less than thousand WSOP champions. However, it is still impressive that there are so many people in the world with World Series of Poker Bracelets.

5. The Poker Players Championship is on the Way

Very soon we will get to know the WSOP 2012 first millionaire, as yesterday kicked off one of the most significant WSOP events - $50,000 Poker Players Championship. It is too early to make any predictions, as 63 players (from original 108) are still gunning for the $1,451,527 first-place prize. Tomorrow we will make serious progress towards the money, with Andy Bloch as our chip leader with 687,000.

Tournament of Champions - Alexander Kravchenko
Among the survivors are: Michael Mizrachi (563,100), Jeff Lisandro (437,900), Matt Glantz (370,900), Viktor Blom (358,000), Brian Rast (303,900), Shaun Deeb (296,600), Doyle Brunson (285,000) and Phil Ivey (166,200).

We continue to monitor the events.

6. Clones at the WSOP?

In the halls of the Rio we have found a few clones. Moreover, some of them were sitting next to each other. Try to find 10 differences!

7. Construction Works

While some characters are trying to impress fashionists, others are busy constructing their chip stacks. Check out this sweet chip stack Jordan Young! It's about 200BB in Event #46: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

Or, Bryan Devonshire, who has spent a lot of time building his stack.

But one awkward movement, and Oops!

We built ...

8. Party Time at the Final Table

Pratush Buddig and alcohol
Reporters managed to spot Pratyush “FenwayKing” Buddiga on his way to rail Balazs Botond on the final table of Event 43: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em. It is hard to imagine fanzone without a tray of beers!

9. Relaxing Gus

Coffee Break, do yoga
This is a random photo of Gus Hansen making himself at home in the Rio. Today he's personifying the term 'flaking out' right in the hallway outside the Amazon. Taking a phone call in Danish, Gus is lying down, stretching and doing yoga and he doesn't care what others think. Anyway, it's good to have The Great Dane back at the WSOP. We wish him luck and take ourselves quietly away...
