Meeting with the Main Man

14/02/2012

‘Aashiq Banaya….Aashiq Banaya’ (Phone rings)
‘Hello’
‘Hi, I’m Aditya from Fundoo Poker, am I speaking with Mr. Martin’
‘This is he’
‘Do you have 15 minutes today?’

I should have said no just to see his reaction but anyway, coming to the main point, Mr. Aditya, the Person in Charge of Fundoo Poker in India wanted to meet me for 15 minutes for some work. Inspite of constantly asking him what the agenda of the meeting was, he refused to tell me, stating it was a surprise. I think this was a slowroll. Mr. Aditya, If you’re reading this, yes, It was a slowroll! But a sweet ending slowroll! (we’ll come to that later).

After work, I waited for him in a restaurant called ‘Big Banana’. How do I get involve in things which have such umm……..unique names ‘Big Banana’ ‘Tiger Martin (my online name)’’fundoo’. I had never met Mr. Aditya before, I had exchange mails with him. Using my advance skill of deduction and analysis I assumed that he would be someone in mid-thirties with sunglasses tucked in the front side of his collar, a tight shirt and flashy jeans with a chain to his wallet.

‘Aashiq Banaya….Aashiq Banaya’
‘Hey Aditya, I’m inside the restaurant’…..and then I saw him.

He was young….very young. He looked smart like those fresh IIT or IIM graduates. Umm….I can’t recall but did I address him as ‘sir’ during our telephonic conversation??

He introduced himself. He spoke quite fast and immediately came into the topic of Poker. Hey! What did you expect?  You really did’nt expect two people who are passionate about poker meet up in a restaurant to talk about shaadi.com or matrimonials.com, right?

When I offered him a drink, he replied ‘I don’t drink, I’m like those 2 people out of 20 who do not drink.’

Umm….Aditya, you could have said 1 out of 10, it would have made me think and calculate much lesser in my head.

We spoke about Poker and about the current affairs of Poker in India. And then he asked me ‘Are you a student?’ I could have shed a few tears hearing that. My heart just gave a high five to my age! I have heard people ask me ‘how many children do you have?’ or ‘what does your wife do’ on regular occasion. And that stinks, especially when you’re just 27 and you are young at heart with no marriage plan in your mind. Maybe my work stress has taken its toll on me.

I am diverting for the main topic, so back to the meeting. After a while, he told me to follow him to his car. Aha! He wanted to give me his car as a gift!

It was freezing outside, I was literally shivering. Aditya did’nt look as cold as I was (He was wearing just a shirt). Hmmmmph! Young kids…with their hot blood!

He opened the trunk of his car, lo! There was a beautiful chipset! It was not only beautiful but also very heavy (no kidding). So, just like that I was a proud owner of new chipset. Check out the picture, it’s really great!

So, after the meeting I left with a nice chipset and learnt a few new things:

1. The Bigger the Chipset, the more difficult your journey becomes while taking it home.
2. You can actually earn your living doing something you love (courtesy: Mr. Aditya).
3. Maarja (My staking manager’s) name is prounouced ‘Maar-ya’, The ‘J’ is pronounced with ‘Y’ sound. I wonder if they pronounce ‘Jam’ as ‘Yam’, that would be so confusing.
4. FundooPoker really knows how to make you feel proud to be a part of it!

Cheers! Peace out!
