Even more dramatic turned out to be Event # 36: $ 3,000 NL Hold'em Shootout, where Antonio Esfandiari was on the verge of winning his second WSOP bracelet. Three-handed in Event 36, the $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout, Antonio Esfandiari had roughly 73 percent of the chips in play against American Jeremiah Fitzpatrick and Craig McCorkell. It was such a prohibitive lead that at one point Esfandiari’s two heads-up opponents were discussing a deal to chop second and third place, something that’s altogether unheard of in tournament poker. But then something strange began to happen – Esfandiari was losing all-ins one after another, and in less than an hour was eliminated in third place for $151,613. When the heads-up was over, it was Craig McCorkell, becoming the first U.K. winner of the 2012 WSOP and the owner of $368,593.


 

We still do not know the winner of the Event #37: $2,500 Eight-Game Mix that has tested 477 players’ mettle in a variety of games: Triple-Draw 2-7, Limit Hold'em, Omaha 8, Razz, Stud, Stud 8, No-Limit Hold’em, and Pot Limit Omaha. While we were scheduled to have a winner by now, circumstances have brought about the need for a fourth day as David “ODB” Baker and Greg “FBT” Mueller have hit the hard-stop time on Day 2. Action will pick up today in Level 30, when Mueller will enter with 2.655 million chips to Baker’s 925,000.
