'Amazing Day 5' - Anshul

30/10/2011

Wow... 60 Euro up for the day.. and that too with a higher EV!

What an amazing 2nd session... Feeling EXHILARATED after this 190 minute session which I had to end only because its almost 2 am now and I need to get up early tomorrow. But am still gonna write this article since I am on an adrenaline rush at the moment..

This is definitely the best (and most +EV) I have played over the last 4 days... Almost always calm, tight aggressive(went LAG for some time when he tightened up), and a most amazing and exhilarating consideration of the varying situation including effective stack sizes(which amazingly varied from 20BB to 300BB in the session!!!!)..

Definitely feel like I deservered this since, bad beats didnt deter me and I won the opposite person's stack back eventually.

Session 1 (at another pc so dont have stats): won about 15Eu.
Session 2 details: 0.05/0.1 Euro Heads up (decided to only 1 table and concentrate)

Minutes:189.7 Hands:554 $/hr=14.49 $won=45.8 $EV=56.11
VPIP:63.2 PFR:48 3Bet:16 AF:2.7 WTSD:29% W$SD%:68.8

Learnt that the 3 most important P's of Poker :
POSITION
PATIENCE
POWER

The main problem I had over the last 3 days was that I was not being patient enough.. not at the heads up tables.. and definitely not at the 6max tables.. triple barrel bluff spewed(though with backdoor outs) a few times as well..

Today, went with a different mindset.. Only determined to make +EV plays... results didnt matter. The most interesting part of the session was the major chunk against a good Tag who I caught chk-raising my Cbet with the nut flush draw, calling my river bluff once with Q high as well. Our gameplay and strategies changed and evolved throughout the session.

A hand which almost tilted me.. and made me shake my head several times to "come back" to the game was

I am sitting with 480 BB while he has 140 BB. Deep stacked I love hands like TJs coz they have the potential to win monster pots while you can let go easy when u dont hit.

I flop 2 pair on a 3flush flop, and decide to check raise for value. When he 4bets, I consider the most part of his range to be A flush draw and Overpairs. Flopped flushes are a rarity and in case he had one, he might have slowplaye and not 4 bet. Anyways, given his aggro style, I was prepared to go broke with this hand given that a 4th flush card didnt appear. The 4bet call is debatable. I just called instead of shoving firstly because I wanted a look at the turn which if it was a flush card I would have check folded. Secondly, I wanted to give him a chance to semibluff the turn, which is why I checked the turn. I figured I was stacking overpairs either way, but he might fold his A flush draw to my turn shove; but if I checked I expected him to semi bluff shove with the A Flush draw. I was disgusted with the river but amazingly and uncharacteristically took it equivalent to how Barry Greenstein took his AA cracked by Sam farha's KK on High Stakes Poker. 2 mins later I was solely thinking about how to play 300BB Heads up poker. PS: Amazingly he still had 16 outs on the turn..which makes it lesser of a bad beat then it initially seemed to me.

300BB Heads Up Poker:
I infered that with such huge stacks, overpairs value decreases and reverse implied odds hugely increase... whereas the implied odds of Pocket pairs(set mining purpose), suited connectors takes a huge leap. Thus I started playing more of these, and even 3betting some. However, with such stacks, due to high implied odds, calling 3 bets in position becomes profitable. Therefore I immensely decreased my 3betting %, while amazingly I saw him 3betting more to play bigger pots. I called most of his 3 bets, since he was not playing 3bet pots postflop that well. Often only 1 barelling, check calling with middle pairs. If I called a 3 bet with a non K kicker, A , I would donk the A high flop and fold to a raise.

Slowly but surely, my stack started increasing.. and I won everything from that hand back.. :) Some more interesting hands were there but I would have to leave them for another day due to paucity of time and lack of sleep.. :)
