Casino Royale, Goa

  1. 10K Freezeout 1 (Event #1) - Winner: Aditya "Intervention" Agarwal

AGARWAL WINS APT ASIAN SERIES GOA OPENING EVENT

Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal has scored first blood at APT Asian Series Goa after outlasting a 58 player field to win the INR 10,000 buy-in NL Hold’em opening event. Pocketing INR 182,000 in prize money, Agarwal’s victory came amidst a final table that included top Indian tournament cashers Abhishek Goindi and Sangeeth Mohan.

With only nine spots paid in the event, the final table of 10 players needed just one more bustout to make the money. The unfortunate bubble boy honour fell on Phani Ramineni’s head when, with Ac Qc, he called Agarwal’s Ks Js shove. A flop of Qs 4d 10s got a justifiable “waaaaa” from the table as Ramineni hit top pair but was up against the monster royal flush draw of Agarwal. The 8s turn flushed Ramineni’s cash hopes in the event down the toilet as the river Jd landed.

Reigning APT Asian Series Goa champion Sangeeth Mohan then went on the warpath by busting out Vineet Bailur and Pulkit Kalia in 9th and 8th place respectively before Australian Liam Anderson copped what he later told us was a real “tear-breaker” of a hand. Anderson woke up with Ks Kc and got his money in good against Agarwal’s 2s 2c. However, a flop of 2h 2d 5c saw Agarwal’s quad ducks line up in a row and it was goodnight Mr Anderson.

Michael D’Souza was next to hit the rail and was followed by Kevin Neves. In both cases it was Agarwal yet again dishing out the pain and in the latter case it again a familiar story of Agarwal’s Kc Jh up against the Ah Qs of Neves. Agarwal paired up his king on the flop of Kd 9c 10s and never looked back as the cards to come blanked out.

Sangeeth 'Samoh' Mohan

With over USD $215,000 in tournament earnings over the last couple of years, Abhishek Goindi couldn’t have been too upset with busting out in 5th place, especially as it came courtesy of his good friend Mohan. Goindi three-bet shoved with 5d 5c into Mohan’s 10s 10c and no surprises on the 8d 9s 4h Qs 6s board saw Goindi exit with his usual good-natured smile.

In the very next hand, Mohan picked up Ad Qc and dispatched of Amit Shetty in 3rd with a dominated Ah 2d. It was then down to heads up between Mohan and Agarwal and their chip counts were fairly even at that stage. The two Team PokerGuru pros seemed to quickly agree to chop the prize money between them and so the heads up wasn’t the most competitive we’ve seen. It was, however, one of the more amusing as the next three ‘no look’ shoves resulted in three chopped pots.

Aditya 'Intervention' Agarwal

The fourth hand saw Agarwal’s Kd 6d win out against Mohan’s 9s 7s and the champ was crippled to just a few thousand in chips. The next hand gave Mohan Qd Qh but Agarwal also picked up a decent hand with the snowmen of 8c 8s, and when the dealer tabled 7s 5s 9s, it certainly looked like Agarwal’s night with another straight flush draw. He didn’t get there on the Kh turn but the 8h river gave him trips instead to take the title.
