Getting Started With Poker

21/09/2011

If you are a complete beginner at poker, then getting started is nothing to fear. Poker is one of the easiest card games to learn - most of the rules are simple and straightforward – and once you have picked up the basics you’ll soon be comfortable playing the game. Poker can actually be played in many formats, the most popular being Texas Hold’em.

When you are starting out with poker it is advisable to keep it as simple as possible, so we would suggest first familiarising yourself with Texas Hold’em before moving on to other variants of the game. The first step you should take on your poker journey is to make sure you understand the rules of the game. We would recommend reading Texas Hold’em Rules to begin with and then getting accustomed to the Hand Rankings of poker. As soon as you’ve understood the primary rules of poker, you are basically ready to start playing.

As a beginner at poker, playing with other people can be intimidating. If you don’t know any other poker players who can help you get started, then the idea of going to a poker room or casino with no experience is understandably a little overwhelming. This is why we would advocate that you first start playing the game online.

There are many advantages to playing poker online, particularly for those new to the game. For starters, you don’t have to worry about some of the basic mistakes beginners can often make, such as betting out of turn. When you are playing online poker, you are told when it is your turn to act and it is just a case of selecting the action you wish to take. You can be completely anonymous when playing online so you have no need to be concerned about playing badly or doing something silly – nobody will know who you are.

Another great benefit of starting to play poker online is that most online poker rooms offer a play for free option. This means you can practice as often as you like without actually risking any of your money. This is an excellent way to get used to the action.

When you are feel you are ready to start playing poker, the next step is Choosing an Online Poker Room.
