World Professional Poker Tour Comes to Goa

03/01/2012

The first World Professional Poker Tour (WPPT) tournament of 2012 will be held in Goa , India in late February. Starting on the 20th February at the Casino Carnival Goa, this leg of the tour features a number of tournaments, the highlight being the Main Event which starts on the 22nd. With a $2,000 entry fee (100,000 Rupees) and up to 400 entrants, this poker tournament is bound to attract a lot of interest among local and international poker players.

The WPPT is a new tournament series for 2012 and, following the inaugural tournament in India, will take place in Australia, Slovenia, Egypt, Uruguay, Argentina, Cambodia and the Dominican Republic before culminating in a Grand Final in Las Vegas, USA. The fact that Goa has been chosen for the very first tournament is testament to the increasing profile of poker in India. Indeed, the CEO of the tour – Serge Mazza – has highlighted the emergence of poker in India and stated that was one reason behind starting the tour in Goa.

The WPPT leg in Goa will feature a range of tournaments, starting with INR 5,000 rake free freeze out on the 20th February. This is followed by a 6 max freeze out (INR 15,000), a rebuy tournament (INR 10,000), and a head hunter tournament (INR 20,000). The Main Event will be a deep stack tournament with players starting with 50,000 chips and 60 minute blinds. The tour will climax with the INR 250,000 high rollers tournament, which is invitation only. There will be a number of satellite tournaments taking place too at Casino Carnival Goa in the lead up to the tour too.

The Casino Carnival in Goa is a fabulous setting, befitting of such an event. It is one of the famed floating casinos in Goa that are built on luxury cruisers. The Casino Carnival is anchored on the Mandovi River, overlooking the city of Panjim. It spans four decks with a range of entertainment and gaming activities available.

The CEO of the World Professional Poker Tour is Serge Mazza. He currently lives in Australia but hails from Switzerland in Europe. He has experience of organising poker tournaments from his time as poker manager in Spain and the WPPT is his invention. The WPPT was formed to fill a gap in the market for well structured, deep stack tournaments with affordable buy-ins.

The WPPT promises to be an exciting addition to the international poker world, and the inaugural leg in Goa is eagerly anticipated. With online satellites available to the Main Event, many poker players will be attempting to win their entry and experience poker in India. It promises to be a truly wonderful event and at FundooPoker we will keep you up to date with news and reports from the tournament as it happens.
