APT Asian Series Goa 15K FundooPoker Head Hunter Report

22/05/2012
Date:
22nd May 2012
Venue:
Casino Royale, Goa

  1. 15K FundooPoker Head Hunter (Event #2) - Winner: Anil Adiani

ANIL ADIANI SCOOPS APT ASIAN SERIES GOA HEAD HUNTER

The second day of action at APT Asian Series Goa saw 52 players climb aboard the floating Casino Royale for the INR 15,000 buy-in Fundoo Poker sponsored Head Hunter event. With a INR 2000 bounty placed on every player, the decapitations came thick and fast around the felt and it was only Anil Adiani who was able to stand tall in the end with his head still firmly attached to his shoulders.

Adiani collected a respectable eight scalps on his way to winning the INR 209,300 in first place prize money, despite being down to just four big blinds on the final table at one point. He outlasted a field that included players such as Amit Varma, Dhaval Mudgal, Jasveen Saigal, Abhishek Goindi, Kunal Chandra, Ben Abrahams, Bobbe Suri and Liam Anderson.

With just nine places paid in the event, the final table of 10 players had to once again witness an elimination before the money bubble burst. This time around it was Manan Khetan’s turn for disappointment when he was forced to push his short stack with A 5 from the cutoff and ran into the big blind of Rishi Mishra holding A Q which held up. He was soon joined on the rail by Aditya Sushant in 9th place.

Sangeeth Mohan

One of the big stories of the day was Sangeeth Mohan’s impressive back-to-back side event finishes that will certainly aid his quest for valuable APT Player of the Year points. After coming runner-up in last night’s INR 10,000 Freezeout opening event, the defending APT Asian Series Goa champion was a short stack for much of the time in today’s Headhunter event but was again one of the top finishers.

He also provided some entertainment for the rail when he lost a big chunk of his stack on the final table after river shoving on a board showing A A A 4 2. Full credit to Mohan for effort but, unfortunately, his bold move crashed right into Siddharth Singhvi’s A K flopped quads. Yet, as he had done all day, Mohan scrambled back a few hands later by calling Nitish Gupta’s Q 9 shove with 6 6 and eliminating him in 8th place.

The head of Phil Sanders was next in line for the chopping block when he shoved his short stack with K Q right into the A A of Kishore Marimganti. Aditya Sushant and Rishi Mishra followed Sanders out the door in 6th and 5th place.

Phil Sanders

It was around this time when Adiani was at his shortest stack and pulled his Herculean comeback. One of those double ups came through Mariamganti who departed in 4th place. After the loss to Adiani, Mariamganti pinned his short stack hopes on Q 10, moving over the top of Siddharth Singhvi’s preflop raise. The call was made with 4 4 and the board came down 2 4 K Q 10 to give Singhvi trip fours and the bounty on Mariamganti’s head.

At three-handed, Mohan was again the short stack and tried a steal shove from the small blind holding 10 5. Adiani figured K J was good enough in the big blind to call and indeed it was on the resulting low-card board with neither player connecting.

This gave Adiani the chip lead coming in the heads up with Singhvi of 204,000 chips to 160,000 but it took over one-hour for the duel to end. Singhvi was down to just 40,000 at one point but doubled up twice to be back in the game. He fell a short while later, however, when pushing preflop with K 8 and getting looked up by Adiani’s A 7. The board ran 5 6♠ 2 Q 9 to hand Adiani his first APT title.
