Goa is the poker capital of India, home to some of the largest poker tournaments in the country. Among the many reasons to visit this stunning part of the world, poker is right up there. Tourists from around the world, as well as residents of the country, regularly flock to Goa to soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere and enjoy a game of poker.

As the only state in India where gambling is legal, the introduction of casinos in Goa have proved a smash hit among both domestic and international visitors. With a selection of fantastic land based casinos, close to the hotels and night-life, the gambling industry is thriving in Goa. It is the cruise ship casinos, though, that really should be sampled by anyone taking a trip to the area. There are few, if any, better backdrops for a game of poker than you will find here.

Although there are several casinos on land, only the floating casinos offer poker games – so it is these you need to visit if you wish to play poker in Goa. You’ll find some details of a selection of these casinos at the bottom of the page. The Casino Royale is the largest of the off-shore casinos at some 70 metres long and 14 metres wide. Although the boat is fit for sailing, it remains permanently anchored, in accordance with government regulations. With over 12,000 square foot of gaming area, The Casino Royale has been referred to as The Vegas of The East.

The Casino Royale is also host to some of the biggest and most prestigious poker tournaments in India, such as the India Poker Championship. Other large scale poker tournaments are also held on board some of the other off-shore casinos; for example the India Poker Open takes place on board The Casino Carnival.

The atmosphere on board these casinos is always one of excitement and glamour. The staff are friendly and helpful and the sheer grandeur on most of these places will take your breath away. Other gambling games are available – such as blackjack, roulette or slot machines – and there is plenty of choice for eating and drinking.

The majority of the poker rooms in Goa cater for all standards of players; so if you are a beginner don’t be afraid to go on board and get involved. There are usually plenty of tables running and something to suit all players.

Goa really is a poker paradise. It offers anything and everything a poker player could possibly wish for – and more besides – in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable.
