Short ring: I am BB, with 7c 5c. UTG+1 calls, table folds to SB who calls, I check. Flop is a brilliant 6s 8d 9h. Nice straight on this rainbow flop! I fire a pot size bet, UTG+1 calls, SB folds. Turn is a 10d. I still got the straight with the 7, although my 5 is out of play. I figure at this stage its probably a split pot. I fire another pot size bet. UTG+1 calls. River is Qc. No flush possibility now. I feel I still might be ahead, but a better straight is possible, and I would like to avoid a re-raise which I am forced to call. Plus I dont trust this villain. He's been extremely lucky during this session. So I check. UTG+1 bets 3/4 of the pot. I call. He shows KJ for the nut straight! I can never understand such play. Calling with air on the flop, calling with a gut shot draw on the turn, and then hitting on the river! Reminds me of a hand where Mike Mizrachi hit a similar straight with 75o! And of course, I am just glad I am not booking a loss today!
