Sean Jazayeri Becomes the Champion of WPT L.A. Poker Classic
Today we will begin our daily review with the prestigious offline event - WPT LA Poker Classic, which recently took place at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California. 549 players needed six days to define the champion, and his name is….

This year $10,000 WPT Main Event at the Commerce Casino saw many of the top pros turn out to create a prize pool worth $5,270,400. Amongst those big name players competing was Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Gus Hansen, Antonio Esfandiari, Michael Mizrachi, Vanessa Rousso, Hoyt Corkins, Erick Lindgren, and Barry Greenstein. But it was Sean Jazayeri, who started the final day as the chipleader.
Sean was the most inexperienced player at the table among such poker sharks, as David Sands, Jason Somerville, Noah Schwartz and Dan Kelly, but this obstacle did not prevent him from presenting himself above all praise. Not only did he manage to dispatch Somerville and Schwartz, but also had enough nerve to stand up against Sands in the heads up match. At the start of heads-up, Sands had around 9.5 million chips to Jazayeri’s 7 million, but a huge pot lost with Q-Q versus A-K left him with just 2.5 million behind. Soon after, Sands (K-Q) moved all-in into the Ad-5d of Jazayeri, and was looking comfortable to double-up on a K-10-5-J board, until another 5 on the river ended his WPT aspirations. As a result, the trophy and $ 1,370,240 went to the new WPT champion – Jazayeri, while Sands had to be satisfied with $ 806.370 as a runner-up.
Finishing our WPT review, we cannot go past another important event - $2,000 8-Game tournament that was won by another notable player - Phil Hellmuth. Yes, "PokerBrat" once again proved his poker skills, taking 1st place out of 72 participants and receiving $ 22,000 after a deal among last 4 finalists. Moreover, 25 players (Hellmuth among them) paid $ 1,000 on betting, who will hold out longer in the tournament, and Phil dded additional $ 10,700 to his winnings. This was actually his first live tournament victory since 2007. Welcome back, Phil!
